Well I had my Dr's appointment today with a brand new Dr in Cedar, Dr Sanders. I have heard good things about him but it's my duty as a mom to WORRY!! :) He was really super nice especially since it was our first visit & I had a TON of stuff to talk with him about! I've been having 5 or 6 Braxton Hick's contractions every day for the last 3 weeks some days more than that but that's an average. They hurt & are pretty uncomfortable - they can last anywhere from 3 to 15 minutes depending on the severity. I did not get these during my pregnancy with Addi until I was almost due with her... so it worried me that I started getting them at 21 weeks. The Dr checked me today & my cervix is closed and still high so everything is good there! I also told him I've been keeping hydrated by eating a ton of ice (i'm not a big fan of water) he asked me if I have been consuming more than normal - I said well about a 10 lb bag every couple of days.... I guess that's more than normal so he thinks I might be anemic again. I was with Addi & I was able to take my prenatal vitamins with her I haven't been able to this time so it's a good possibility that I am. I have to fast starting at midnight tonight & have to go in tomorrow for some blood work and a glucose screening. YUCK!!!
I was reading an article the other day that a baby website sent to me about pre-term labor and it was talking about a condition called "Polyhydramnios" or Excessive amniotic fluid. I remember when we went to my 20 week ultrasound that the technician had told me I had alot of fluid but I hadn't thought too much about it. But as I started reading about this condition I realized I had all of the symptoms of this condition. The fundul height is measuring larger than normal, abdominal pressure/discomfort, contractions, swelling & not having frequent urination like a normal pregnant lady. These are all things I've experienced and more so I asked the Dr about it - he was in agreeance with me about it being strange that I did have all of the symptoms especially after what the tech said - so he ordered me another ultrasound. I told him that my Dr before hadn't gotten back the results of the ultrasound at my last appointment so I hadn't been able to go over everything with him - just that there was one and she was measuring right on schedule. The fundul height when I was measured today was 28 & I'm only 24 1/2 weeks - so definitely a bit off there. There isn't a whole lot they can do for this condition but it's better to be made aware of it than not - if I do turn out to have it I might possibly have to go for non-stress tests every week or every other week - which is ok as long as baby stays happy & healthy! The biggest concern is going into preterm labor because the cervix gets alot bigger with the extra fluid and "thinks" it's time to go into labor when it's really not - so we will see what happens, hopefully it will turn out that I'm just crazy and it's just my tilted uterus that's making things appear not what they seem!!
